We're about to start a new term of Messy events, so we thought we'd take a few minutes to say a little about what they are.
We have been running Messy Church sessions for over a decade now, but we didn't come up with the idea on our own. Messy Church is a global network of groups using creativity and food to build community and explore faith.
Messy Church is intentionally an all age community, and we love to see grown ups as well as kids getting stuck into everything.
Each session involves about an hour of crafts and activities related to a theme, followed by about half an hour in which we gather together to explore that theme through stories and songs. We then finish with a shared meal.
The themes are drawn from Christian scripture and tradition, but everyone is welcome regardless of their beliefs. You won't be asked to do anything you're not comfortable with, and we hope to be a good space for curiosity and questions.
We alternate Messy Church with Messy Play, a shorter and more informal session, with free flow activities and refreshments, but no gathered time or meal. These give us more chance to spend more time having fun and getting to know one another.
Over the summer, we take a break from our usual pattern to enjoy some Messy Picnics.
We hope that's a good introduction, but the best way to learn about our Messy community is to come and join in, so look at our Events page for the latest dates, and we hope to see you soon!
